Rewards Program Reviews

At this point I am sure we are all looking to get more for our money. Rewards programs or store savings programs are a big marketing technique for stores it seems. Do I love them? I love what they offer yes. Do I love having to watch my rewards account all the time? No. Do I love carrying around 25 key tags for each program? No. ARE THEY WORTH IT? YES!!

Ones I can speak for since I use them:

Krogers Plus Card:
Cost: None

Where do I get it:  You can pick up your card at the Customer Service Desk. They will have you fill in some information, and then when you get home be sure to register your card online for maximum benefit.

What does it do for me:  You know when you look at the flyer and it shows you the sale price. Those are for Plus Card members. If you go into the store and try to buy the items at that price without the card, you will get charged full price!! With this card, you are also able to go into the Savings/Coupon section on Kroger's website and load coupons onto it through Cellfire, $hortcuts, and Kroger's Digital Coupons. This is just bonus savings for you. The card also tracks your savings and spending to give you points towards fuel purchases. This may very by store. The other just informational bonus to the card is that every time it is scanned it logs all of your savings, so it will give you a savings to date total at the bottom of your receipt. Chances are the cashier will ask you for your Plus card at check out but be sure to have it, you don't want to get stuck paying full price!

How do I maximize the benefit:  Combine the savings you will receive from the sale prices, with manufacturer coupons, and loadable coupons for the maximum savings.

My overall review of the program: I LOVE IT!

Place Perks - The Children's Place
Cost: None

Where do I get it: This one is a little tricky. I received mine in the mail around the holidays. I am not sure what prompted me to get one. I do hold a TCP card, so that may have prompted it. You could try to give them a call and see if you can get one for yourself.

What does it do for me: For every $75 you spend (after all discounts not including tax) you will receive a $10 coupon by mail. It does take a few weeks. Does not appear that the $10 coupon can be used with a % off coupon or $ off coupon, unless it is the TCP Credit Card rewards % off. Your card MUST be scanned at each purchase to qualify, and there is a good chance that the cashier will not ask for it since not everyone received one.

How do I maximize the benefit: First off, if you have an outlet store that is the absolute first step to maximizing. I have an outlet near enough to me that I utilize it. A great way to get to your $75. A lot of times I can pick up things on clearance for $1.99-$2.99. Then, hopefully, you have a current % off coupon. Also, if you have the TCP credit card and have earned your 200 points you should have your extra 10% off sticker for your card (You earn 1pt/$1 unless it is double points time).

This is an idea of what you could get for $75. Scan your perks card. If you could find 50 items at $1.99 = $99.50. Use your current 15% off coupon = you save $14.92. Use your 10% from the TCP rewards = you save $8.45. Your grand total for the 50 items would be $76.12 (+ tax). Now, you have earned your $10 coupon!!

Disclaimer: Outlets are a never guaranteed thing. You may want to try calling your store before you go to ask what kind of sales they have going on. I try to get in there during the $1.99/$2.99 sales. However, since my kids are getting bigger the prices are going up. My example above would be a great scenerio if everything worked out that the right things were on sale, and you had the right coupons. It is just an idea of things to look for to get the most for your $.

My overall review of the program:  I LOVE IT! If I am going to be buying my kids clothes at TCP anyhow, I might as well benefit from it!

Best Buy Reward Zone
Cost: None

Where do I get it: You can get the card in store.

What does it do for me:  Earn 1 point for nearly every $1 spent and redeem reward certificates at all U.S. Best Buy® stores and at BestBuy.com®.  Take advantage of member-only promotions and offers, including a special reward during your birthday month

How easy is it to earn? See for yourself:

You spend Points Reward Certificates

Spend  Points  Get in Certificates
$1000  1000   $20
$500      500   $10
$250      250     $5

How do I maximize the benefit: The best way I have found to maximize this is two ways.  One, use it on something you have wanted but have been putting off.  Two, match it up with a Buy One Get One Free Sale.

My overall review of the program:  I am not a huge fan of Best Buy in general.  Again, if you are going to be buying something you might as well get something out of it.  I recently had $15 in Reward Zone certificates, and I used them to preorder New Moon.  I paid $5 for it.   The one problem I did have is that recently they made some changes to their program and they were issuing certificates for 250 pts or more.  If you had less than that they would just be lost.  I had 249.  Mine were lost.  So basically the $249 that I spent didn't get me anything.  I don't like programs that work like that.  If you are changing your program you should find a way to convert existing points (or whatever the system).

How do I maximize the benefit:  I would try to match up my certificate to a Buy On Get One Free sale

My overall review of the program: I don't do a ton of shopping at TRU/BRU so I am not a good judge of this one.  I use it, when I do go, but I think I have only ever earned one $5 certificate.

I hope that you find this information and reviews helpful!!

Books: What good books have you read lately?

I will soon be finishing up the Sookie Stackhouse series. I absolutely loved it. I am usually pretty good at predicting the outcomes of situations in books, but this one has always kept me on my toes!!

I would like to hear what books you love. I am going to be looking for a new series soon. I have to go back and read the latest book in The Vampire Diaries. Then...what will I read??

Information: Couponing Lingo

To any of you that are not "couponers" and wonder what I am talking about during matchups, here is a little background.

I have, in the last couple months, found that I like to file my inserts whole.  I then cut whatever coupons out I need as I need them.  That is why when I do my matchups you will see a date after the coupon and then a 2 letter code.

Example:

2/7/10 GM = This tells you that this coupon came out on 2/7/10 and it was in the General Mills insert from the paper.

2 Letter codes:
GM- General Mills
SS - Smart Source
RP - Red Plum
PG - Procter & Gamble

I do try to post as many internet printed coupons in the matchups as I can.  That way for those of you just getting started and don't have a lot of coupons can still take advantage of the sales.  I should also mention that in my matchups I only post coupons from inserts (newspapers) or internet printed coupons.  There may be better coupons out there that you have gotten  in the mail.  So you may need to double check.  I just don't like posting those as sometimes we don't all get the same coupons in the mail.

MyPoints: Spin & Win Game

For all you MyPoints users out there, they are doing their Spin & Win game again.  Just go to MyPoints and click on the tab for Spin & Win.  If you don't know what MyPoints is, here is a brief description.  With MyPoints, you go to their site before shopping at some of your favorite stores.  Once you get there (after you are signed up with MyPoints of course) you can search for the website you are looking to order from (example:  Walmart, The Childrens Place, Magazines.com) and they will tell you how many points you get per order or per dollar.  Then the points will be awarded after they confirm your purchase, usually around 30 days.  You can then turn your points into gift cards.  You also get points for referrals.  So, if you are looking to join MyPoints and would like a referral you can send me an email HERE.  I love the program!  I have been a member since 11/2007 and have a lifetime earned points of 18,487.  I have redeemed 15,500 of them.  Different gift cards I have gotten are Walmart, Target, Bath and Body Works, Chili's, Outback Steakhouse and Amazon.com.  Might as well be getting rewarded for shopping you are doing anyhow!

Talking about cleaning - somethings you may forget about!

As I was wiping down the shelves in the pantry this morning, I was running down the list of other things I should do in my head.

Here are some things you may forget to do:
  • Home Security System - Did you know that if you have a home security system, it is likely, that you are supposed to "test" it once a month.  Refer to your manual or call your specific company for details.  If you are not testing, it may affect your homeowners/renters insurance.  You would have to look at your specific company/contract for the details.  I know with my company if I do not do my monthly test (which is done from my keypad) that it is actually a contract violation!  It may also affect my insurance coverage should I have a break in!
  • Pet medicines.  Such as heartworm medicine and flea/tick drops.
  • Pet bathing, brushing, and nail trimming.  This is, of course, if you do these things yourself.  We do.  It is so much easier if you do this once a month rather than waiting until it is really bad.  Plus your pets get more used to it.
  • Cleaning your washer!!  If you have a front loader you may have the option on the front to "clean washer."  With my washer this involves loading bleach into the bleach spot and setting it to clean.  It does the rest.  Your really should wipe off your rubber seal as well.
  • Dishwashers can also be washed too!  You can buy dishwasher cleaner at Walmart and other stores of the same.  This detergent removes stains and lime buildup in your dishwasher.
  • Garbage disposals!  They sell garbage disposal cleaner.  I use these little yellow balls that I get at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.  They smell like lemon and seem to do a good job.  I don't have a stinky disposal!!
  • Outdoor trash cans.  I at least try to spray them with disinfectant once a month or every two weeks during the winter months.  Spring, summer, and fall, I take them out once a  month and hose them out and then spray them.  Otherwise *ugh* no one wants to open that lid!!
  • Inside trash cans.  I lift mine up to the sink, spray it with an all purpose cleaner and then use my sprayer to rinse it.
These are just some of the things I sometimes forget to do!  So I thought, well, if I forget, I bet someone else does too!

Bearpaw Boots

I LOVE them!!  I bought a pair through Amazon.com (they are the deal of the day today $29.90, you can see the link to them on the right).  If you have Amazon Prime it is free shipping or free Super Saver Shipping.

My Experience:  I ordered mine smaller than what I wore.  When they came, I loved them because they were warm and it is winter and my feet are always cold.  I did not like them because it felt like they were squeezing my feet.  I thought...oh no....I should have ordered the right size, maybe I should send them back.  I didn't.  I kept them.  After about a week they stretched out and now I absolutely LOVE them.  If spring was not on its way (wishful thinking on my part) I would buy another pair.  It is a GREAT price today for them too!

Electronic Coupons - What are you talking about??

Are they paper? No. Can you print them? No. Well if you can't print them how do you use the? Here is how!

There are at least two websites in the business of electronic coupons. These get loaded onto your shoppers card. When you scan your shoppers card at the store, the coupons get applied to your order. Seems simple enough right. You got it! Although, with that being said, I have had coupons not come off correctly. If this happens you should contact the company. By providing your receipt they can verify that you did in fact buy the correct item, and that you had the correct coupon on your card at that time. I am not exactly sure how the "refunding" process works for this, but most companies are great about fixing errors, if you ask!

$hortcuts.com is one that I use frequently.  Do keep in mind that even if your store doubles coupons, these coupons do NOT double.

They are currently can be used at the following stores:
  • Baker's
  • Carrs/Safeway
  • City Market
  • Dillons
  • Dominicks
  • Frys
  • Genuardi's
  • Gerbes
  • Hilander
  • Jay C
  • King Soopers
  • Kroger
  • Owen's
  • Pavillions
  • Pay Less
  • QFC
  • Ralphs
  • Randalls
  • Safeway
  • Smiths
  • Tom Thumb
  • Vons
Cellfire is another electronic coupon site.  Here you can register your mobile number to get coupons sent directly to your cell phone (I advise unlimited text plan when using any service like this.  The service itself is free, however charges may apply for data/text messaging).  The coupons that you can have sent to your phone are from participating stores.  You can find out the information by entering your zip code.  The grocery coupons are actually loaded onto your shoppers card, the same as Shortcuts.  Again, these coupons do not double, even if your store doubles.

Always frequently check the sites, as new content can be added at any time!

Stockpile Photos

For those of you that don't know this.....stockpiles to bargain hunters are not for when the world comes to an end.  What it is, is we find the BEST price (one that we choose) for an item.  Then when it gets to that price we buy buy buy.  Usually this means that we have purchased enough of an item to be very selective of the price we pay for it the next time.  For instance, I REFUSE to pay over $1/box for cereal (General Mills or Kelloggs).  So when it is under $1 I will purchase several boxes.  Now, how do I get it for under $1?  I wait until one of my double coupon stores (Hilander - Kroger or Logli - Schnucks) has a good sale...say 5 for $10.  Then I look for $0.55 off 1 box coupons.  These double to $1.10, so $0.90/box.

These are the totes FULL!  There is anything in those from Mens/Womens Razors (approx Free - $1) Body Wash (FREE) - Light Bulbs (Free) - Storage Bags (Free to $0.50) - Cleaning supplies and MORE

Electrasol - $1 ea - Laundry Soap - $2 and under - Tide Stain Release Free - $2 - Downy $2.99
Mt. Dew 2 Liters - $0.37 - Most of the canned goods are $0.60 and under

Hello, and thanks for visiting the SuperPoints Network!

The SuperPoints Network is a collection of sites where you can win and earn SuperPoints™ that can be redeemed for great rewards.

Our goal is to build the best rewards program in the world by offering the best sites to win and earn points, the biggest payouts, and the most rewards.

Our fundamental philosophy is that every person is his or her own celebrity. After all, Tiger Woods gets paid to talk about his favorite golf clubs, and Martha Stewart gets paid to tell you what bedding to buy - why shouldn't you get paid for promoting the products and services you like too?

To get the most out of the SuperPoints Network, tell everyone you know about our sites using your special referral links. We'll take the money we would have spent on advertising, and give it back to you in SuperPoints™ that can be redeemed for great rewards like gift cards, electronics, or even cars!

You can finally do something with all those connections you've amassed on MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, Bebo, Hi5, Tagged, Flicker, etc. etc. etc. because at the SuperPoints Network, "every connection counts"!

You can use the SuperPoints Network with confidence. We're accredited by the Better Business Bureau and Truste, and many of our advertisers are brands you know and trust like The Gap, Target, and Macy's.

Take a look at all the great sites in the Super Points Network, and find out how you can get big rewards by searching, shopping, or recruiting. We can't do it without you!

Ryan Koonce Founder & CEO

Organizing/Cleaning Help

I was referred to a website called 12 Minutes to GO (Get Organized). I love it!! They send you an email everyday (if you sign up for one on their site) with a task to do for the day.

Example:

12 min - Fill the water reservoir in your coffee maker half way with white
vinegar and run the coffee maker as you normally do (without grounds, of course)
and then run it once full of water. If it still has a vinegar smell, you can run
water through a second time. This will help remove mineral deposits and residue
left by normal use.

This is what I got for an email today. It kind of helps me remember those things that might get forgotten about or put off.

You can go to http://www.12minutestogo.com to sign up! They also have th option of printing of a list so you can put it on your fridge!

Swagbucks Gift Cards

I redeemed points before the crazy birthday thing with Swagbucks and just wanted to let everyone know that the gift cards are posting!! It's always such a happy day when you get free money :)

If you aren't signed up with Swagbucks yet here is a little information. You can use them like you would to any search engine. The difference is that you may (or may not) earn points on your searches. They also have codes that you can enter to earn points. They have a store where you can redeem your points. They have changed A LOT since last Thursday goes. But as it goes right now, you need 450 points for a $5 Amazon.com gift card. Hey...it's easy money!!

If you are interested here is a referral link. By clicking this link I will receive matching points. What you win on your searches I will win as well. So yes, I do benefit from the referral.

We LOVE the orange juice in a bag. $1.19 for a 1/2 gal isn't a horrible price either :)
